The Helmet of Salvation
2. The Helmet of Salvation
The helmet of salvation reminds us of God’s saving grace, and our connection with God through Jesus Christ.
What is Salvation?
Salvation comes from the Latin word, “salvare” which means “to save”. Salvation is the deliverance of a person from sin [Acts 2:38] and its consequences, such as death and separation from God, through Jesus Christ.
Why is Salvation Important?
It exempts us from eternal punishment, which is the result of being born into sin.
This eternal punishment is eternal death and separation from God
[2 Thessalonians 1:9] , when you have salvation, this is no longer the reality of where you will be or what will happen to you when you die.
It gives you a personal relationship with God, so you can go to him boldly. [Ephesians 3:12,John 15:15]
The Holy Spirit lives inside of you [Romans 8:9] allowing you to better understand who God is [John 16:13] and to even recognize his voice when he speaks to you [John 10:27,Matthew 16:17] and directs you in your life. [John 14:26]
Allows you to become a child of God[John 1:12] , and have the promises associated with being His child. [Examples of Promises: Philippians 4:19, Psalm 91:1-16, Psalm 37:23, Matthew 28:20 , Romans 8:28]
In summary, by having salvation, you have eternal life and eternal companionship. And someone who will guide you in navigating the world, the life that you live, giving you wisdom and strength to deal with and overcome anything you come across.
How do we get salvation?
We obtain salvation by making a decision to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Believing that he is the son of God, rose from the dead and that he is able to forgive us from our sins. Confessing sin and turning away from doing things our way and following the ways that Jesus has taught.[Romans 10:9-10]
How do we put on the Helmet of Salvation?
Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and believe in Him for eternal life, confess and turn away from your sin and decide to obey him and His commands. [Romans 10:9-10,Ephesians 2:8]
Read the Bible and the instructions that have been given inside of that book in order to learn who God is and to recognize the things that He has said, and apply those things to your life. [2 Timothy 3:16-17]
Ask God to reveal His voice to you, so you can know when He’s telling you to do something and believe that He will reveal himself. [James 1:5-8, John 14:13-14]
Create a quiet place to reflect on the scriptures and let God’s voice speak to you through your thoughts and other means. A quiet place is a good location to get accustom to recognizing how God speaks to you, it’s also a good opportunity to listen to God without the distractions so that you can be directed by Him. [Matthew 6:6,Psalm 37:7, Mark 1:35,Luke 5:16]
Tips
To recognize God's voice you need to read, know and understand the Bible
Spirits CAN input thoughts into your mind -- the Holy Spirit can do this however there are also other spirits. If your thoughts don't line up with the Bible it's either you or some other spirit.
